R2D2 real computer vision software - click to enlarge

The one you have all been waiting for since 2012; over 1000 have requested this software and this is where you will find it soon!

As you can imagine, creating real vision and motion for a R2D2 is not a two minute job, so please bear with me. I aim to finish a new version during 2016. It will be worth it!!

In the meantime, if you look on youtube for "Autonomous R2D2 vision" you can see the 2012 version in action.

R2D2 Vision software download (Win XP, Win 7) - future link place holder
Description:

A windows based system for R2D2 and other robots that provides motion / motor control based on computer vision.

The software will monitor a live video feed and calculate the XY coordinates that will point a physical item at that coordinate, much like a sentry gun.

For R2D2, it will rotate the R2D2 dome (X axis) to look at a person, color or moving object and then move the front holo projector (Y axis) to look directly at the person or object.

Once locked on to the person or object, there is a Z axis / trigger to do another function, like pull the trigger on a water pistol or in R2D2's case, extend a utility arm or whatever you fancy (as long as it's legal!).

Requirements:
  • Win XP or Win 7
  • DotNet 3.5+
  • Aforge - provided
  • HD Web cam
  • 2- 5 Amp Stepper driver board
  • or Pololu
  • or Arduinio and stepper breakout
  • Small old notebook that you can strip down

Pleaaase!!! Pretty Please with sugar on top and all that jazz (Actually, I would be MOST interested in uncompiled source, if you were so inclined) I am a budding programmer who would LOVE to dig into HOW you did what you did so well)
